British Film Institute Takes Over Funding From UK Film Council
It was a controversial decision made by the coalition government but the UK Film Council was dismantled with the British Film Institute taking over doling out funding to film-makers. Today is the official date that happens after eight months of campaigning to stop it.
Last summer at The A-Team press conference Liam Neeson voiced his annoyance at the government’s decision when he said:
“I haven’t quite formed my full opinion yet … I’m just giving my knee jerk reaction. But of all the things to tighten … what? To save seventeen dollars? It’s kind of shocking and it makes me worried about this government. Hopefully I’ll get more info and we’ll start a campaign.”
The transition from the UK Film Council to the BFI hasn’t caused too many problems. The producer of Berberian Sound Studio, a film currently filming in east London said:
