Mark Wahlberg Ready to Get in the Ring for Sequel to 'The Fighter'

Concerning the life of Massachusetts-born professional boxer "Irish" Micky Ward and his older half-brother Dicky Eklund who helped train Micky before he went pro in the mid 1980s, The Fighter was one of the best films of the past 18 months, a belief punctuated by the film's Oscars for Christian Bale and Melissa Leo last Sunday night.

In a new interview with Extra, Mark Wahlberg revealed that he's ready to start thinking about the sequel. "Now we're gonna talk about doing No. 2," he explained. "We're gonna do the Ward /Gatti trilogy and make it real."

The actor is referring to Mickey Ward's three fights with his most fierce opponent, Arturo Gatti.

The Fighter grossed $107M on a $25M budget, so the financial incentive to carry on with a sequel certainly won't be an issue.
