San Francisco International Film Fest Opens with Mike Mills' Beginners, with McGregor & Plummer

The 54th San Francisco International Film Festival will open April 21 at the Castro Theatre with Beginners, from writer-director Mike Mills (Thumbsucker). The movie, which stars sexy couple Ewan McGregor and Mйlanie Laurent (Inglourious Basterds) and Christopher Plummer in rare form as a gay man fighting against the dying of the light, played well at Toronto, where it was acquired by Focus Features. The festival, which usually draws an audience of over 75,000 people and gives out 15 jury awards, will feature 200 films. Sfiff programming director Rachel Rosen says that Beginners has "a playfully inventive sense of style, grounded by the film's emotional honesty. This charming and humane glimpse into the thorny nature of contemporary relationships is a fantastic way to launch the International's 15-day cinematic exploration of contemporary global society." More information on the festival is here. Here is the trailer. »

'The Chronicles of Rick Roll' Trailer: Andrew Fischer Is Never Gonna Give You Up

Filed under: Trailers and Clips, Movie News, Cinematical

If you thought 'The Chronicles of Riddick' wasn't bad enough, then prepare yourself for 'The Chronicles of Rick Roll,' executive producer Andrew Fischer's new movie that pieces together a seemingly endless number of Internet memes into one surprisingly coherent story.

The story itself is simple: Rick Rolland (Fischer) meets a beautiful girl online, only to watch her get sucked into the treacherous Internet portals. In order to save her, Rick must travel inside the Internet himself, where he meets a number of Internet-made celebrities, from Bed Intruder Antoine Dodson to Double Rainbow's Paul Vasquez. It's sort of like 'Tron' meets meets 'Alice in Wonderland' meets 'Lord of the Rings' meets every other major blockbuster from the last five-to-10 years.

But before you go calling 'Rick Roll' the next 'Date Movie,' check out the trailer (after the jump), because,»
