Friday Box-Office: 'Rio' and 'Madea' are Neck and Neck for the Easter Weekend Crown
So the surprise this weekend has to be Fox's Rio considering it made more this Friday than it did on its opening day last Friday. I guess those 16 extra theaters it moved into were in neighborhoods dying to see an animated bird get into some wacky trouble. Should Rio follow a similar trend to last weekend's Saturday and Sunday it's looking at a $40 million weekend, but considering people were probably off due to the start of spring break I'm going to guess a little lower and say $36 million.
As far as Laremy and his predictions are concerned, he's probably going to be sad for a second weekend in a row as he picked Tyler Perry's Madea's Big Happy Family to come in at number one with $34.32 million, but after a $10.4 million Friday, I'm expecting it to come in second at around $29.5 million. Maggie Q Featured in First Clip from Priest
The first preview clip from director Scott Stewart's (Legion) new movie, Priest, has been released and it finally gives fans of butt-kicking actress Maggie Q (Live Free or Die Hard, Deception) something they can really sink their teeth into (vampire pun thoroughly intended). In the movie, which is loosely based on the Korean comic book of the same name by Min-Woo Hyung, Q plays Priestess, a vampire hunter with Jedi-like powers in a post-apocalyptic world where humans live in walled cities dominated by the authority of the Church following the devastating Vampire War. When Priest (Paul Bettany) goes against Church law by leaving the city to hunt down the coven of vampires led by Black Hat (Karl Urban) who kidnapped his niece (Lily Collins), Priestess is one of the warriors sent by the Church to bring him in dead or alive.
