Friday Box-Office: 'Rio' and 'Madea' are Neck and Neck for the Easter Weekend Crown

So the surprise this weekend has to be Fox's Rio considering it made more this Friday than it did on its opening day last Friday. I guess those 16 extra theaters it moved into were in neighborhoods dying to see an animated bird get into some wacky trouble. Should Rio follow a similar trend to last weekend's Saturday and Sunday it's looking at a $40 million weekend, but considering people were probably off due to the start of spring break I'm going to guess a little lower and say $36 million.

As far as Laremy and his predictions are concerned, he's probably going to be sad for a second weekend in a row as he picked Tyler Perry's Madea's Big Happy Family to come in at number one with $34.32 million, but after a $10.4 million Friday, I'm expecting it to come in second at around $29.5 million. Maggie Q Featured in First Clip from Priest

The first preview clip from director Scott Stewart's (Legion) new movie, Priest, has been released and it finally gives fans of butt-kicking actress Maggie Q (Live Free or Die Hard, Deception) something they can really sink their teeth into (vampire pun thoroughly intended). In the movie, which is loosely based on the Korean comic book of the same name by Min-Woo Hyung, Q plays Priestess, a vampire hunter with Jedi-like powers in a post-apocalyptic world where humans live in walled cities dominated by the authority of the Church following the devastating Vampire War. When Priest (Paul Bettany) goes against Church law by leaving the city to hunt down the coven of vampires led by Black Hat (Karl Urban) who kidnapped his niece (Lily Collins), Priestess is one of the warriors sent by the Church to bring him in dead or alive.

Thirty years ago, when Taxi zum Klo was shown in several cinemas under club conditions without a BBFC certificate, I was lined up to give evidence for the defence were it to be prosecuted for obscenity. My services were not required and the film now stands as a milestone in the history of both free speech and the representation of gays in the cinema.

What helps it retain its vitality is that writer-director Frank Ripploh (who died of cancer in 2002 at the age of 52) treats his life as "a normal, tired, neurotic polymorphous-perverse teacher" in Berlin with the same witty, generous, self-denigratory honesty as Clive James and Simon Gray brought to their heterosexual exercises in confessional autobiographies.

Ian Holm Confirmed For The Hobbit

Two chunks of Hobbit new broke across the Easter weekend, with something to gladden the heart of those who were hoping that Ian Holm would definitely be back for the new film and some bad news for anyone anticipating Rob Kazinsky’s work as Fili the Dwarf.Let’s start with the good news, shall we? As has generally been assumed, though never officially confirmed, Ian Holm will indeed play the older version of Bilbo in what we can only assume will be a framing device for the story. When films usually shoot so late in the day, say a couple of months before opening, it spells trouble. But Captain America: The First Avenger was filming this weekend in New York City and it looks very much like it's for the link between Joe Johnston's movie and next year's The Avengers.

Of course it's still very, very last minute and clearly what ever was filmed before wasn't much cop, hence this re-shoot. The scene features Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Chris Evans as Captain America. As mentioned, it doesn't look like Marvel and the filmmakers hitting the panic button. You can check out the footage below.
