Exclusive Clip from 'Adrift' Starring Vincent Cassel and Camilla Belle

It's not often I get studio provided exclusives here on RopeofSilicon but every so often someone decides to throw me a bone. Now I can't say the clip below is mind-blowing. It doesn't feature the two actors mentioned in the headline (at least not in person) or even a line of dialogue, but I saw this as a chance for you to get a look at the work of a director with a bigger studio project coming up in the near future.

The clip comes from a film called Adrift and when I was first asked if I would be interested in the exclusive I couldn't remember ever even hearing of the film. So I did a quick search to see if I'd actually mentioned it on the site before. To my surprise... I had.

Tarantino Finds a Title: Django Unchained

We've heard that Quentin Tarantino was writing a spaghetti western. And you may remember what the cover page of his Inglourious Basterds script looked like. Well, posted below is the supposed cover page of his new one, Django Unchained, clearly inspired by the Sergio Corbucci original Django, not to mention Takashi Miike's Sukiyaki Western Django, which features Tarantino (see clip below). Franco Nero, star of Django, has said he is attached, along with Christolph Waltz and possibly, Keith Carradine and Treat Williams. ‘Attack The Block’ Review: A Genre Blending, Cult Classic In The Making

One day in the near future, you'll probably be able to own Attack the Block action figures. Not lame ones like you see for the typical Hollywood blockbuster, I'm talking the cool ones reserved for the true cult classics. Neca or McFarlane toys. Detailed likenesses with accessories. Real geek stuff. Writer/director Joe Cornish's feature debut about a London alien invasion [1] is that kind of movie. Insidious – review

Directed by James Wan and scripted by Leigh Whannell, the Australian co-creators of Saw, and produced by Oren Peli, the Israeli writer-director of Paranormal Activity, this is a supernatural horror flick by and for horror buffs. A pleasant, apparently American couple and their three small children move into a new house where things go bump in the night and the eldest child experiences a three-month coma. They get even bumpier when the family moves elsewhere and the situation become more problematic than that in The Amityville Horror. The build-up is slow and sure, the shocks are exponential, Barbara Hershey as the husband's mother is even creepier than she was in Black Swan, and a bad time is had by all. The film cost $1.5m to make and has taken $45m at the Us box office.

Farewell – review

In 1980, the Francophile Vladimir Vetrov, a senior Kgb officer disgusted with the direction in which the Soviet Union was going, approached French intelligence offering to provide invaluable information about Soviet spies and the Kgb's penetration of the west. He was given the codename "Farewell", Franзois Mitterrand shared the coup with President Reagan, and Vetrov helped hasten the collapse of the Ussr and brought about his own death.

Farewell is a somewhat fictionalised version of this relatively little-known story, with Emir Kusturica as the reckless, quixotic, idealistic Kgb agent (here renamed Grigoriev) and Guillaume Canet as the French engineer and the reluctant go-between. It is a richly intriguing tale about high intrigue, though at times a trifle uncertain, and comes over as a cross between two John le Carrй novels, The Spy Who Came in From the Cold and The Russia House. There's a neat turn by Fred Ward as Ronald Reagan.»

Two New Actors Added to The Hobbit

Director Peter Jackson used his Facebook page to announce the addition of two new cast members for The Hobbit.

Dean O'Gorman will play the dwarf Fili, replacing Rob Kazinsky who had to drop out of the movie because of "personal reasons."

Dean's a terrific Kiwi actor, who I am thrilled to be working with. He's recently been in an excellent TV series down here called The Almighty Johnsons, and I should let fans of that show know that our shooting schedule allows Dean to continue with a second series next year. Dean will be joining us next week.

Jackson also announced Lee Pace (pictured) has been cast to play the Elven King Thranduil. Lee played Ned the pie maker in the TV series Pushing Daisies and has a role in the two-part Breaking Dawn.

Casting these Tolkien stories is very difficult, especially the Elven characters, and Lee has always been our first choice for Thranduil.»

Water For Elephants is based on a best selling book by Sara Gruen and stars Robert Pattinson as Jacob, poised on the edge of life, about to take his final exams that will enable him to become a qualified vet. The film is told in flashback and we meet Jacob as an old man when he embarks on telling his story to a young circus manager. It segues into 1931 quite seamlessly, and although it's a much used technique, it fits the tone and style of the film perfectly.
